Membership of the Royal Irish Yacht Club
The Club is currently accepting new applications for membership, whether your interest is in sailing or recreational we have it all.
Our members and their guests enjoy a first class dining experience, along with an outstanding variety of social and recreational events, athletic, health and fitness services.
If your interests are expanding your social activities, making new friends, sailing, power boating or cruising, casual or fine dinning, the RIYC undeniably has it all. We have adults learn to sail, a fantastic junior sailing programme, a walking group, cycling club, bridge club, chess club, art group and many more activities.
A summary of our types of membership is outlined below but for more information we recommend you ring our Club Secretary at 2809452 ext 2. If you are a former member of the Club and wish to return we would be delighted to discuss the options available to you.
Full Ordinary Membership
Ordinary Members are elected by ballot. Every candidate needs to be proposed by one Ordinary Member and seconded by one or more Ordinary member. Application forms available from the Club Secretary.
After scrutiny by the Committee the application form shall be displayed for not less than 6 weeks in the Bar before his or her name shall go forward for ballot.
People over 65 do not have to pay an entrance fee.
Country Membership
Country membership applies to people residing more than 80 kilometres from the Club premises and shall be elected by ballot in the same manner as Ordinary Members.
Family Membership
An Ordinary member can apply for Family Membership. This includes the member's spouse and whose children may be cadet members or junior cadet members that may be elected by the existing process.
Overseas Membership
Overseas membership applies to people residing outside Ireland and shall be elected by ballot in the same manner as Ordinary Members.
Cadet Membership

Candidates between the age of 18 and 25 may apply for membership as cadets. Every candidate shall be proposed by one Ordinary Member and seconded by one or more and the conditions of his or her election are the same as those for Ordinary members, apart from the ballot. Meaning their card needs to go on the board for 6 weeks. Cadet members are elected by the Committee.

Once 25, they must notify the Secretary 3 months before end of year if they wish to become an U30 Ordinary member. A New proposal card to be filled out with proposer and seconder.
Junior Cadet Members

Candidates between the ages of 8 and 18 may apply for membership as Junior Cadets. Every candidate shall be proposed by one Ordinary Member. Cadet members are elected by the Committee.

Once 18, they must notify the Secretary 3 months before end of year if they wish to become a Cadet Member. A proposal card to be filled out, proposed and seconded and processed by going on the board for 6 weeks then elected by Committee
Associate Membership
Any Ordinary, Overseas or Country Member can nominate his or her:

Spouse

The widow or widower of deceased Ordinary, Overseas or Country Member

His or her widowed mother or widowed father

His or her mother or father provided such parent is aged 65 or over and has not been a member of the Club in the past 2 years

His or her mother-in-law or father-in-law provided such person is aged 65 or over and has not been a member of the Club in the past 2 years
Crew Associate Membership
Any Ordinary, Overseas or Country Member can nominate a person who is a Crew on an Ordinary Member's boat can apply for this membership, for a period of no more than 3 consecutive years. Crew Associate membership is valid from 1st April to 30th September. After 3 years this person is eligible to apply as an Ordinary Member and if elected, no entrance fee is payable.
