Frequently asked questions regarding RIYC. Q : Do I need to own a boat to join the RIYC? A : No. Most Members do not own a boat themselves, but crew for family and friends. Q : If I buy a boat will there be any place to keep it? A : Yes. The Club has several types of arrangements for keeping boats, from 'Dry Sailing', that is launching your boat every time you want to sail, to pontoon and swinging moorings.
Q : Are these expensive? A : Not really, they average about half the price charged by commercial operators.
Q : I have limited interest in sailing/boating, why should I join? A : A majority of members do not sail at all. They joined for the other facilities we have on offer.

All these areas have recently been renovated to the highest standards and have received universal acclaim.
Q : Would these facilities be available to members for a personal function, like weddings, parties, etc? A : Yes, on a limited scale, with plenty of advance notice. See Private Functions .
Q : Where can I park my car? A : There are limited private car spaces for members. There are plenty of public spaces in the immediate area, at special rates to members.
Q : How do I join? A : You need to have a current member propose you and another one second you.
Q : How do I find these two members? A : You will find that by enquiring from your friends, business and social contacts. You are likely to know a few already who will put you on the right track.

Q : Is that it? A : No, your name will then be displayed at the club for several weeks until an election for membership arises when the members will vote for your acceptance.
Q : What then? A : The secretary will write to you confirming your election, and then you can use the club like any other member.
Q : Sounds like a complicated, elitist formula to join? A : Well you must remember it is a private club, and naturally the people who are in it want a say in who joins them, the same as happens in any club anywhere. We have a wide range of professions and trades amongst the members, and you will find the members generally a friendly and outgoing bunch who are easy to get along with.
