Welcome to the Social Calendar page, we hope you are able to join us for some of the exciting events that are coming up at the moment

We start 2017 with …

Wednesday, 22nd February
The next film in the RIYC Cine Club Season is Double Indemnity directed by Billy Wilder and starring Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G Robinson. Double Indemnity is a film-noir and classic in which an insurance representative lets himself be talked into a murder/insurance fraud scheme that arouses an insurance investigator's suspicions.
The film will be screened on Wednesday 22 February in the drawing room at 8.15pm and attendance is free to all members and their guests. Pre-screening supper €20 main course and a glass of wine available from 19.00hrs. Reservations to catering.

Join us for this terrific RIYC Battle of the Chefs event, if last year’s event was anything to go by, it’s not to be missed. as two Members go head to head for the prestigious Battle of the Chefs Trophy. Thursday, 2nd March 19.30 hrs

Terry Johnson, former RIYC Commodore, will talk on Flag Etiquette, at our penultimate Cruising Talk of the season.
Flag etiquette is a combination of law (what you must do) and maritime tradition (expectations of behaviour within the seafaring community). For many who go to sea, flag etiquette and flag rules are an essential part of the overall sailing process. Only with the right flag, correctly positioned, can you to be sure that you are giving the correct message and that any signal you are giving is clear. Supper will be available after the talk, €27.00 per person, guests welcome, Members table available, book with Catering

Friday, 3rd March 13.00 hrs

With St Patrick’s Day just around the corner join us for a talk with Paul Harvey, from Windyridge Nurseries.  Paul, a gardening expert, will talk on Early Flowering Alpines.  Paul's talk will commence at 13.00 hrs in the Dining Room followed by lunch.  €27.00 per person, guests welcome, Members’ table available. The eagerly awaited RIYC Awards night - when RIYC Members get together to present awards to RIYC sailors for the Sailing Season 2016, we celebrate the highs and lows and look back at what has been a super year in Sailing for our Club.  More details to follow....

A great opportunity to get together early in the season and discuss our summer program and learn a few new skills. And enjoy the company of friends old and new!

Friday, 17th March 19.30 hrs

Former Commander of HMY Britannia, Captain Christopher Tuffley RN (retd.), LVO, is the guest speaker, his talk entitled Life at Sea on the Royal Yacht will tell of his time aboard Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia. The RIYC Rugby Dinner on 17 March, will follow the talk, on the eve of the Ireland V England game.  In parallel, Captain Tuffley has also enjoyed a distinguished rugby career both playing for the Royal Navy and as its representative on the RFU at Twickenham for fifteen years, see his biography here.  Join fellow RIYC members and their guests for what promises to be a most interesting and entertaining evening. RIYC Bridge Club - Every Tuesday at 19.15 hrs
The Bridge Club will resume play on

All players at Improver Level (or better) are welcome to join us for a relaxed evening of card play.

RIYC Book Club Meeting - Wednesday 8th February at 11.00 hrs
We will be reviewing The Sellout by Paul Beatty, the 2016 winner of the Man Booker prize. As always no obligation to have read the book to attend.
The RIYC Book Club meets monthly from September to June on the second Wednesday of the month at 11.00 hrs in the Drawing Room, all are welcome, including those who haven't read the book. For information on the book club contact: Winifred McCourt 087 2446004 or
