Shore-based Activities

Not content to leave it at sailing and socialising, RIYC members have sought-out others with whom to share similar interests.  Since the earliest days of our club history, members have enjoyed playing billiards together at the club.  Many other interests have been shared at the club over the years, including our most recent addition in the past few months, the Cine Club.
Please see more information on each of the activities on the drop-down menu, where you can find details of regular meetings and upcoming events.
If you have any suggestions for other activities that you would like to see at the Club, please contact Gill O’Connor at gillzer@gmail.com.

RIYC Military History Book Club

The RIYC Military History Book Club held its inaugural meeting in the RIYC Library on Wednesday, 15 February at 19.30 hrs.  Thank you also to those who, although unable to attend, have expressed their interest and indeed shared ideas.

Arising from same, it was agreed that the format for future meetings would entail a 15 to 20-minute presentation/talk by an individual member on a military topic of their choosing followed by a group discussion. The first three presentations are scheduled as per below.

The following dates and topics were agreed:
22 March: Pursuit The Chase and Sinking of the Bismarck’ by Ludovic Kennedy presented by Joe Conway
19 April:  ‘Antwerp and the German occupation of the Scheldt estuary’ presented by Desmond Kelliher
17 May:  ‘Paris 1919' by Margaret Macmillan presented by Jane Mahony

All meetings will take place in the Club (Library or Drawing Room) at 19.30hrs. There is an optional supper in the dining room following same at 20.45 hrs for those who wish to continue the discussion. The latter must be booked by individuals in advance with catering.
Members of the group are invited to revert to me with a title/topic and indication of when they would ideally like to do a talk. Please forward your comments to Winifred McCourt winifred62@hotmail.co.uk tel 087 2446004
