Wine Committee trip to Bordeaux - 5th to 7th April 2017

I hope that everyone has seen the invitations for the wine trip that is planned to take place to Bordeaux next April from the 5th to the 7th.

For those who might have missed it, though, here is a reminder that the trip will commence with a flight to Bordeaux on the 5th arriving in time for early evening socialising and a fine dinner. The following day will include a presentation on the wines of the region followed by visits to three wineries on the left bank. That evening back to the city for another culinary experience and, I have no doubt, some fine wines. On the Friday 7th, we will visit some right bank wineries and return home late afternoon to Dublin.

We already have a number of people who have expressed interest but I wanted to give those who may have missed the missives a final opportunity to sign up. If you are interested, please send your email and mobile details to me at ‘byerspeterj@gmail.com’. My mobile number is 086 2466755. Over the next week or two, I will be circulating the more detailed itinerary and seeking a deposit to secure your place so ‘don’t miss the boat’

Hello to all keen wine enthusiasts. As mentioned at the wine dinner in October and in last week’s ezine, the wine committee is planning a trip to Bordeaux from 5th to 7th April 2017 for members and friends. Details are being worked out with the organisers as we speak and I hope to have firm clarity on the itinerary and the cost within the month. In outline, however, we plan to fly out on the 5th April staying perhaps at the Grand Hotel. Dinner that evening will be at a fine restaurant in the city. The following day, visits and tastings in such wineries as Chateau du Tertre, Chateau Pichon Baron and Chateau Lynch Bages.  That evening back to Bordeaux for another culinary delight. On the Friday, we may visit St Emilion as an alternative to Medoc/Haut Medoc to enjoy a couple more wineries before a flight back to Dublin that afternoon.

However, to be sure we keep the cost at a reasonable level, we also need to target approx. 20 travellers. I have had expressions of interest from 13/15 but would love to have a few more names to be sure we can keep the cost at €1000 per person or thereabouts. That will include flights, hotel and visits to the wineries. If you would like to be considered and have not already let me know, please contact me at ‘byerspeterj@gmail.com’ or on my mobile (086 2466755). Alternatively let one of the other members of the committee know and they can pass your details to me.

It should be a wonderful trip and experience. I look forward to hearing from you.

Peter Byers, Chairman of Wine Committee.
